Ayat Reflection: They want to extinguish the Light of Allah…
يُرِيدُونَ لِيُطْفِئُوا نُورَ اللَّـهِ بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَاللَّـهُ مُتِمُّ نُورِهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْكَافِرُونَ
They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it. TMQ [61:8]
This verse is a form of sarcasm against the disbelievers and a response to their intent to fight and defeat Islam. So Allah (SWT) compared their rejection of the truth to the one one who tries to blow out the light of the Sun with his mouth in order to extinguish it. Allah (SWT) said – نُورَ اللَّـهِ – the light of Allah (Al-Islam) – to indicate upon what Muhammed (as) brought, which is only the Light of Allah (SWT) to guide humanity. The Light of Allah (SWT) is beyond being extinguished because it is more stable and intense than the light of the Sun, because the Sun’s light disappears, weakens and withdraws, as for Light of Allah (SWT) nothing can weaken it or extinguish it.
This verse is immensely inspirational, especially in these dark and troubling times. Just reflect on the situation of the Muslim Ummah today; where no other nation like the Muslim Ummah have and still experiencing unimaginable punishment, wars, division, occupation, poverty and all forms of oppression, yet the Muslim Ummah holds onto Islam. Not only that, the ummah is day by day coming back to Islam in their millions seeking solutions and guidance. This shows the immense power of Islam, it still continues to radiate its light in these dark times. If it was any other nation that is being punished by the disbelievers and their allies like the Muslim Ummah because of their beliefs and values they would have collectively abandoned their beliefs and values instantly.
Moreover, with the constant vilification and propaganda against Islam, many non-Muslims have not been deterred from embracing Islam every day. That is the Light of Allah (SWT).
If this is the power of Islam in the situation of weakness, then what will be the power of Islam once the Muslim Ummah is united by the Khaleefah of the Muslims who rules by Islam, utilises our many strengths for the cause of Islam!
