Complaint of the Messenger (peace be upon him)

Complaint of the Messenger (peace be upon him)
The Messenger said, ‘O Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur’an as [a thing] abandoned.'”
This is a reference to the words of the disbelievers and is appropriate to his statement, ‘Indeed, he has led me astray from the remembrance [i.e., the Qur’an]…’ [25:29]. So the complaint of the Messenger to his Lord was narrated that his people had abandoned the Qur’an by following the false claims of their leaders and the ruling elite who led them astray from the Qur’an, i.e., from contemplating it after it had come to them and they were able to reflect upon it. This statement is true in both this world and the Messenger referred to is Muhammad (peace be upon him). And this statement is used in the context of a complaint.
The purpose of the story of the words of the Prophet is to warn the Quraysh that the Prophet turned to his Lord regarding this matter, seeking His support and help, and that he is about to receive it. The use of “إِنَّ” (verily) emphasizes the importance of the complaint. The expression “قَوْمِي” (my people) is used to intensify their blameworthy action towards the Prophet, because the matter of a person’s people is to support and stand by them.
The verb “اتِّخَاذ” (taking) in this context implies a strong attachment to the state of taking, to the extent that the action was done for that purpose. Therefore, this is an exaggeration to say that they abandoned the Quran, instead of saying they neglected it.
The demonstrative pronoun “هَذَا” (this) in “هَذَا القُرْآنَ” (this Quran) is used to emphasize its importance, indicating that a book like the Quran should not be neglected but rather sought after and benefited from.
The term “مَهْجُورًا” (abandoned) means left and abandoned, and the intended meaning here is that they neglected and stopped paying attention to it. – Tahrir wa Tanweer, Ibn Ashoor
