Ayat Reflection

Ayat Reflection: Yusuf (AS) and the famine.

Ayat Reflection: Yusuf (AS) and the famine.

قَالَ اجْعَلْنِي عَلَىٰ خَزَائِنِ الْأَرْضِ ۖ إِنِّي حَفِيظٌ عَلِيمٌ

[Yusuf] said, “Appoint me over the storehouses of the land. Indeed, I will be a knowing guardian.” TMQ: 12:55

In order to manage the impending famine Yusuf (as) requested that he be in charge of the storehouse; he justified that he is qualified for this position because he is :

1. ‘حَفِيظٌ’ –
guardian, someone who will protect, preserve and not waste and squander the resources.
2. ‘عَلِيمٌ’ –
knowledgeable about how to distribute the resources fairly and justly so that everyone’s needs are met.

Now contrast this with the reality of the rulers of the Muslim lands where we have a famine where 20 million people in Yemen, South Sudan, Somalia, and Nigeria face starvation and famine.

These rulers are squandering the wealth of the Muslims by implementing the rotten Capitalist system which just serves the few.
