Ayat Reflection

Ayat Reflection: Or do you think that most of them do hear or understand? They are nothing but as cattle; nay, they are straying farther off from the path.

Ayat Reflection: Or do you think that most of them do hear or understand? They are nothing but as cattle; nay, they are straying farther off from the path.

Or do you think that most of them do hear or understand? They are nothing but as cattle; nay, they are straying farther off from the path. [25:44]

“Most people were compared with cattle, both were compared in terms of equally not accepting guidance and submitting to it, also He (SWT) considered most people to be straying further from the path than the cattle. That is because the beasts and cattle are driven by their needs, so they are guided and they follow the path and they don’t deviate from it right nor left. Whereas most people when they are invited by the Messengers and presented to them the correct path, they don’t respond, nor are they guided and nor do they differentiate between what will harm or benefit them, unlike the cattle, they differentiate between what will harm them of vegetation and the path so they avoid it and whatever benefits them so they prefer it.

Allah (SWT) did not create for cattle hearts by which they can comprehend, nor tongues by which they can speak, rather He (SWT) gave all this to these misguided people, then these people did not benefit from what He (SWT) made for them of intellects, hearts, tongues, hearing, and sight, therefore they are more astray than the cattle. That is because the one who is not guided to righteousness and to the straight path despite having evidence is in the state of being most astray and wretched than the one who is not guided while they have no evidence. ” [الأمثال في القرآن – ابن قيم الجوزية]

This verse points to the intellectual nature of Islam, it invites mankind to contemplate the purpose of their existence and through sound reasoning to conclude the validity of Islam- There is none to be worshipped except Allah (SWT) and that Muhammed (as) is the last and final messenger. As for those who do not use their faculty of reason is considered to be worst than beasts and cattle.
